The Internet gets into Russia 2 times faster than into the world

Today, a fixed access to the Internet is more popular in Russia than a mobile one. But now the wireless Internet access is already integrated into lives of many Russians.

According to J'Son& Partners Consulting, at the moment there is 83% of the entire Russian Internet-audience who had ever used a wireless access to the Internet, 8% of people in Russia use the wireless Internet access more often than the fixed one, and 4% of them use Wi-Fi only.

By the end of 2012, a total Russian mobile devices (such as smartphones, mobile phones and tablets) user base of data transmission (expressed in SIM-cards) reached 65.5 million of active subscribers, an active subscribers base of mobile Internet users on a USB-modems was about 11.9 million.

The total audience of mobile Internet access at the end of 2012 was about 40 million (this method of users counting suggests the case when 1 person uses the Internet with several mobile devices during the reporting month; we take into account only one user in the statistics).

At the moment, the spread of mobile Internet access in Russia exceeds approximately 2 times a similar average indicator in the world, and it is inferior to indicator values for a number of countries of Western Europe, the USA, Japan and South Korea.

Most of subscribers of mobile Internet access in Russia log onto the Internet with mobile phones. Average traffic of data transmission of mobile phone subscriber is significantly lower than one of the smartphone, tablet or USB modem subscriber. In next few years, according to J'son&Partners Consulting, smartphones and tablets will make the most significant contribution in the growth of the subscriber base and traffic of mobile data.

By the end of 2012 the active subscriber base of smartphones mobile Internet users increased by 88% on the outcome of 2011 and counted 22.5 million subscribers (about 34% of subscribers of mobile data transmission from mobile devices).

Total actual smartphones park, according to our estimates, is 27.2 million devices. Thus, about 80% of smartphones owners are subscribers of mobile access. Smartphone owner average mobile data traffic, according to the results of the 2012, is 303 MB/month (+150% on the year 2011).

The number of subscribers, using a tablet to have an Internet access, is relatively small - 2.5 million, which is equivalent to 4% of the subscribers of data transmission from mobile devices, or 71% of all tablets users. Month average traffic per active tablet user counted 450 MB/month by the end of 2012 (+80% compared to the outcome of the 2011).

J'Son& Partners Consulting notes that the significant increase of the monthly average Internet traffic of the smartphone user (in 2012) is primarily due to the growth of popularity of services and applications based on the mobile Internet access. Modern smartphone possibilities allow you to perform with significant number of everyday tasks.

A search, navigation, watching videos, social networks use and other tasks gradually «flow» into mobile space.

Although a smartphone and a tablet are not able to replace a PC or laptop, many of smartphone users can’t imagine their lives without mobile devices.
