Telecommunication services during Olympic and Paralympic games in Sochi will not be available for other mobile operators. Visitors shall choose "Megafon" network manually, said Tigran Pogosyan - the head of project "Sochi-2014".

As he says, users of other mobile operators will use "MegaFon" network. They will be able to use voice and sms services, however, they won't be able to use telecommunications, including 4G.

"MegaFon" and "Rostelecom" signed contracts with Organising comitee of Sochi in 2009. These contracts are about spending $130 mln each. Also mobile operators spent $100 mln on region infrastructure.

"MegaFon" has opened cross network roaming with other mobile operator since December 2012. To connect to "MegaFon" network it is necessary to choose it manually or to buy "MegaFon" SIM-card.

Now "MegaFon" set 685 base stations with 2G/3G standards and about 270 ones with 4G as well as 15 portable mobile stations. The number of "MegaFon" users in Sochi region counts more than 300 thousand people.
