Analytical agency Telecomdaily has globally analyzed the level of mobile communications on federal highways of the European part of the country. They examined the roads with a total length of more than 3000 km in Moscow, Leningrad, Pskov, Novgorod, Smolensk, Tver, Tula, Kaluga, Vladimir and Ryazan regions.
In comparison with the similar study conducted last year, we can see the steady improvement of the situation. There’s 10% increase (from 65% to 75%).
According to the researchers, the communication did not always correspond to the ideal characteristics, but it was satisfactory at least on three-quarters of the roads.
The biggest share of coverage area consistently belongs to Megafon. MTS has demonstrated the greatest progress. Beeline is actively developing the north-western region.
Megaphone retains its leading position with much more modest expenses (compared to competitors) thanks to existing capacity. The period of active stations’ construction of this operator occurred in 2010, so Megaphone takes the first place in the quality of coverage in 9 out of 10 regions. MTS has almost doubled the coverage area, but they achieved the decided advantage only in the Novgorod region.
This study provided an opportunity to evaluate the weaknesses of 3G-networks. Many human settlements located near the highways have no access to mobile high-speed Internet. 6% highways require amplifying antennas, 2% do not entirely have the third generation communication systems.
Telecomdaily employees characterize the situation with the 3G-networks development as a prospective one. The stations not bring into operation been noticed on the researchers’ way are the striking proof of this.
