Intensive learning technology with “Second Screen”

Интенсивное обучение с применением «Второго Экрана»

A wide-spread practice of different study systems (such as e-Learning, mobile learning) allows realizing activity approach of providing study materials and organizing individual study courses in order to raise motivation of students and, moreover, efficiency of study process. The base of e-Learning, m-learning is usually audiovisual content (video). Its educational outcome can be increased by a new technology “Second Screen”, which provides intensification of teaching process through the good combination of traditional and innovative approaches.

Aims of the new educational technology with “Second Screen”:

  1. To provide 100% individual control over video viewing
  2. To support modern activity approach in education, including the one for distance learning
  3. To point up important aspects of video
  4. To provide 100% control over learning study materials by using modern diagnosis tools
  5. To provide Russian developers with tecurity (technological security)

What are main special features of “Second Screen” technology?

The outstanding feature of the technology is providing to mobile device user with additional content, which is connected to current part of video.

Necessary condition of synchronizing video and additional content is using one of two recognition methods: either watermark (sound cues) of fingerprint (sound prints).

Fingerprint method is used when a right holder needs to show synchronized elements of “second screen” independently from a place of playing video (TV show or YouTube video on PC).

Watermark is used when it is necessary to play synchronized elements of “second screen” only from certain devices. For instance, Disney limits synchronization only by Blu Ray devices.

What does Neilsen research say?

  1. Interest in viewing video with “second screen” increases by 30%-50% depending on video theme and personal motivation of viewers
  2. “Second screen” improves retention of video storyline due to using motor memory and implementing activity forms.
  3. 70% - 80% of viewers at the age of 15-45 years old use a mobile device while watching video (receive and send sms, check e-mail, chat in social networks, surf on the Internet looking for some information related to the video, etc.)
  4. 72% of children at the age of 10-15 years old are confident users of mobile devices.

New ways of education with “Second Screen”

Using “Second Screen” technology you can implement innovative techniques of “intensive learning” into a process of demonstrating video in classroom (group lessons) and at home (individual ones), which guarantee 100% result.

Notice: students’ activity should not interrupt viewing of educational film.

Differentiation control of learning video materials

While watching a video, a student has a pool of questions to complete diagnosis after each logic unit in order to know how clear the material is.

Дифференцирование контроля усвоения учебного видеоматериала

A task for a student: to “fix” a pool of questions with one action (tap or click). All control materials are available for students only after video is finished so it doesn’t interrupt viewing.

Focusing

During video demonstration students can see text and graphic materials, which contain the main idea or some elements to remember.

Акцентирование внимания

A task for a student: to “fix” text and graphic materials with one action (tap or click). In fact, provided material is a summary plan, which can be corrected by students after video is finished.

Active learning of a video

While demonstrating video, a student is provided with simple mechanics tasks related to the video storyline.

Активное изучение учебного видео

A task for a student: being short in time, to answer a question or solve a problem with one action (tap or click). The system fixes each student’s actions and then provides statistics report on results of completed tasks after video is finished.

It is possible to develop unique approaches of “intensive learning” with using “Second Screen” technologies for each subject.

Business options

Option 1: «Licensing recognition software»

If you have your own technical specialists who are able to develop a mobile app under your requirements, you can purchase a year license for fingerprints or watermarks (depending on video/audio duration).

You can create your own “Second Screen” app for launching either on PC (browser) or mobile device (Android/iOS).

In such case we provide libraries for developers (SDK-Android-OFFLINE and SDK-iOS-OFFLINE) and examples of synchronized content for free.

The cost of licensing FINGERPRINT-OFFLINE per year per one platform per one app (1х1х1):

(*) – there is an opportunity for Russian companies to get a discount up to 60% (depending on volume of audio/video materials

Option 2: «App development order»

We are ready to undertake the following commitments:

Develop ready-to-operate hardware and software complex of intensive learning with using “Second Screen” technology for PC (browser) or/and mobile device (Android/iOS), including:

  • “Fingerprints creator” or “Watermarks creator” (depending on chosen method of synchronization based on patented technology);
  • “Related content builder”, including control materials creator;
  • Related content storage with necessary protection levels;
  • Apps for individual work of students on required platform and OS (probably, Android).

Teach technical and educational staff in order to they could work with hardware and software complex by their own.

Provide technical and tutorial support.
